There are many great bush walks and tracks to follow in Taranaki. Some of the most stunning scenery can be found right at your doorstep. From our holiday park you can wander through a wonderful reserve with the beach on one side and native bush on the other, past the Gaerloch shipwreck and beyond. For the more adventurous, there are several walks up into the Kaitake ranges, all just a few minutes away.
The Coastal Walkway is a stunning stroll beside the Tasman Sea. This is a 7km walkway that forms an expansive sea-edge promenade stretching almost the entire length of New Plymouth. Along the way, you will encounter the ever changing sea, a number of interesting stone carvings and pieces of public art, the marina at the port and Ngamotu Beach. Mobility scooters are available from the New Plymouth Aquatic Centre for use on the Coastal Walkway and for these, it's best to book ahead.
The highlight for the more experienced trampers would have to be walking and climbing the magnificent Mt Taranaki Volcano. Mt Taranaki, the 'most climbed mountain' in New Zealand, provides safe access to skiing, tramping, climbing and photography. Looking remarkably like Mt Fuji in Japan, the cone rises 2518m, is surrounded by lush green countryside and feeds over 50 rivers and steams.
Taranaki was also chosen for filming the movie 'The Last Samarai' because of its similarities to Mt Fuji in Japan.
