The village of Oakura is pretty small yet rated for its Arts & Crafts and wonderful food.
A few places of interest are AlleyCat, a pottery studio and NZ Craft shop, Art by the Sea, a wonderful little shop and gallery, and The Crafty Fox, a great outlet for arts, crafts and other NZ goodies.
If fine dining is for you then you should not miss a meal at Wunderbar - to be found at just a short walk from the camp.
There is also the Malaysian Carriage which offers Malaysian food in an old converted railway carriage - lovely & intimate with reasonable prices too. And there is Butlers Reef Bar & Caf if you just want a quiet drink (or two) and maybe a bar snack.
